Judge McDonald,I personally wanted to thank you and Dominica for allowing AMI kids Sandoval’s students to participate in last year’s Art show. I can tell you that many of our native students are very talented and it wasn’t surprising that they were able to produce some beautiful art work. What was surprising was the impact the art contest made on our students that actually had art work that was viewed and appreciated. The art contest seemed to help them in the areas of self-esteem and confidence. They were very proud of what they accomplished and they seemed to have a new awareness of how valuable art can be in many ways. One of our students (Samuel Weahkee, 14yrs old) was so proud of his Native Mickey drawing he got emotional at the awards ceremony we held and said he had never won anything in his life and dedicated his drawing to his mother. He has since left the program but he is in school and doing well. We are hopeful that we can participate in this year’s event and have similar events occur with our students. So, on behalf of our students, I want to thank you and Dominica for allowing the art contest to make a difference in our students. We look forward to this years contest.Issac WilliamsExecutive Director

True Stories
Research, data, and all metrics put aside, the most profound change that art has on student's lives is by way of the stories that we get from the students. True life stories. If research and data alone are not to convince one of the positive impact that the arts has on student's lives, then perhaps the personal stories will...
